Who is Karthik?
I am an Indian-born Berlin-based illustrator. I make art prints via sites like Society6 + RedBubble, and have run several successful kickstarter projects for papercraft dolls and enamel pins based on mythological characters from around the world.
I am inspired by various mythological epics, folktales, fairytales and comic-book superheroes and how they influence our world view. As children, we imagine ourselves as colorful and epic heroes within our own life stories, but lose a lot of that growing up as we contrast it against the stark reality that is life.
My characters and illustrations try to take the mundane and ordinary and restore some of that childhood magic by injecting the whimsical fantasy and epic qualities of mythology into them.
